UPHILL REEF

UPHILL REEF P1010023_2Another shot of a full reef. This is was taken with a little 3MP Olympus, someone was throwing away.
I really learned about digital photography with this camera.
Have a great day.

Any day that starts with a reef photo may not be 24 hours of greatness but it's sure going in the right direction.

Speaking of hypnotic ... lots of places in the woods have the same effect on me; I never get tired at look at them or trying to get a good picture to capture their specialness. I've taken hundreds of photos of this spot and this is the first one that comes close to getting it. [LINK]

KH: I'm always amazed by the composition of your reefs. I believe they are your creations, are they not? It must be a lot of effort to make them “work”.

ANDIF: Hypnotic is the word. It looks like such a tranquil setting, yet I'm sure there's a lot of life in your spot.

Hi Evangeline.

There's lots of life and flux in that spot and all throughout the forest -- which is one of my favorite things about the woods. Case in point, here's that same spot this morning after we got over 2" of rain yesterday. [LINK]

Hiya Head, Andi and Evangeline.

Head my first digital camera was a 1.3MP Olympus. That's what I learned on and I do believe I took some of my best pictures with that one. However, I never had your skill with pictures or picture manipulation.

Wonderful picture as always.

Morning Andif,
I think that all the inhabitants of my reefs, feel the same way. The day starts off well, but danger lurks.
The linked pic is of an amazing mood.
I just saw you posted an "after" shot of the same location. I`m excited to go link to it.
I can`t begin to imagine it. I`m actually torturing myself, till I go.
Thanks for sharing your secret spot.

Evangeline,
Yes, they are all of my creation.
It is a process, that must include all the creatures & corals in it, over which control is easily lost at times.
Interaction between species are not always similar from reef to reef. There are millions of unpredictable variables that affect outcomes. For an attempt at the "perfect" reef, one is left with the mandatory task of making sure the water quality & the lighting are of the most 'near natural' as possible. In the beginning a start-up reef, is basically a water container with a bunch of "rocks" in it. These rocks look like chunks of chalky dead coral.(They are) Now you`ve started a reef. It does take a few years from then.
Patience is a virtue, & one`s virtue is tried over & over again, believe it.

Hi FM,
You are a pleasant surprise.
First digital:
It`s like remembering your first girlfriend, or your first bicycle.
I`m going to go visit your place in a few. Nice to know you`re OK.
Stay cool, be cool.

Andif,
Holy cripes,
Talk about a dynamic change.
Now I see how this is a feeling that you`d revisit. It`s like a sanctuary.
The falls are the curtain to your private opera. Very beautiful.
Thanks.

Andif: I just got a look at your 2nd photo. Wow! Now I can hear it! I can't tell you how much I miss the sounds and the feel of a spot like that.

Hiya, Family man! You're not the only one. Even with a digital camera, I'm lucky if I succeed in taking one good picture every three or four dozen takes!

Head: Patience is a virtue but creating your reefs sounds like a full-time job. It certainly sounds (and looks) rewarding.

Head, I don't think the spot's too secret -- it's on the kids' camp we share a property line with and right above the best spot to cross the creek so I imagine I'm among the thousands who've seen it but that doesn't diminish its pleasures for me. I'm happy to share.
