This Elephant Ear or Giant Cup, comes in different textures & colors and is named because of it`s size.
These "Rhodactis" eat food, including fish, by enclosing it in a large cup.
I have observed the one in these images many times during feeding. It can close quite rapidly & I would estimate the time to be faster than I can run & get my camera in my office next door.
Sometimes I run really fast.
As you`ll see in the slide show, I did get a shot of one eating the "catch of the day", a Yellow Watchman Goby.
I came home for lunch a few years ago, & giving my reef a quick look over, I noticed the poor Gobi, looking at me, as if to say, "DON`T JUST DO SOMETHING, STAND THERE".

Lovely shot. The glow on the edges is particularly spectacular.
Alas, a slide show is too much for my dial-up. OTOH, since I'm in a perilous state caused by the transition from vacation to work, perhaps it's better that I don't have to deal with nature, red in tooth and claw.

The amazing way this coralimorph gets it`s food, is akin to a Venus Flytrap, I would imagine.
Most of the time, it will snag edible particles floating by, & I would surmise the fish may have been in prior distress to allow itself to be caught, in view of the other fish pilfering from it`s maw.

AUDREY is a perfect name for that creature.
Last night, speaking of "interesting critters", a beetle flew in onto my desk.
I started taking shots of it, then noticed it had strange critters of it`s own.

How long does it take to fold itself inside out and back again. When those fish were swimming over the exposed insides (the green, w/ the knobby bits), could the elephant ear close on them quickly or does it move too slow? And what about the clown fish sticking it's head in to steal bits of food ... eek. And one more question -- is that bright shiny disc its mouth?
That should be, sticking its head in ... ugh ... :)

I have an image of this creature called "PURSE SEINER", which is basically the same.
Yes the bright area with the radial lines is it`s oral disc, but a while later it will be called it`s sphincter.
I think we`ll go with 'oral disc', for now.
The clownfish may have a bit of an advantage over other fish, in that it can survive living in an anemone.
Some clownfish actually use a Giant Cup as a surrogate anemone.
I`m sure you`ll be fine.

I've got one orchid in bloom right now -- a white phalaenopsis like the ones in your photostream. It has been flowering for months now ... new bloom shoots start before the old flowers fade, and it has been constant orchids ... :)
These flower for months also. That`s what`s nice about Orchids. Now cover your ears!!

Everytime I go near them, the whole flock goes off like at a Turkey farm.

Ah... for your elucidation; a chicken-tender is actually the one who delivers the chickens and the mortar up the scaffold to the chicken-layers.
That would be a HOD chicken, no?

I was able to view the elephant ear set fine by clicking on the next one using the browse, so I did get to see them all. (Yooost remind me not to use the wrong password.) One just has to be patient waiting for each one to load.

The chicken in charge of handing up the mortar, arrives in a [chicken} souped up car, called a HOD ROD.

I neglected to say that I enjoyed the sequence very much.
As chickens well know, it's always better to be souped up with a HOD ROD than a noodle...
One can prevent being hen pecked, if one is good when kanoodling.
