RESCUE MAIDEN
Who are we & why do we do the things we do. As you may have guessed, our home is filled with animals that come to us mostly by chance. They are always welcome to whatever help we can offer, some to stay permanently, others till we can find a suitable home that meets their needs. On Planet Earth is a beautiful Bearded Dragon, that I rescued to place in a home suitable for it.
This dragon was a therapy dragon for kids with special needs. You may remember my little buddy Shane that I sometimes write fantasy stories for. This dragon was in his classroom till the school closed. Shane`s mom, an amazingly loving person, could not bear to have the lizard at her house with nobody to hold it & take it out for walks, as it was used to at the school.
I picked up the dragon & brought her to my young friend down the street who`s brother has the large reef tank I help with.
So there you have it, another successful rescue. I should return to where I started this post.
The young lady in the posted image is also a rescuer. Here she is with two little kittens. Funny where things start. That young lady is my mom.
We only ever have one. Call yours, remember her if she`s gone & always be nice to ladies, they may eventually be someones mom.
Have a nice day,Please.

OOOPPPS.
I forgot to mention Olivia`s worts in the header.
The lady & her bridesmaids.
Hi Head,
That's a lovely photo of your mom, w/ the kittens and the flowers behind. A family trait ... :)
Thanks for the worts ... pretty flowers.
Off to check out the lizard dragon.
Yes my sister sent it to me a few years ago.
I saw the Purple Worts a few hours ago. They have been through the mill the past few days but are still appealing . I figured you`d like them.
I made some stalkings for them.
They look beautiful ... :)
Morning Head and Olivia.
Very nice pic of your Mom and kittens Head. I really like The lady & her bridesmaids though. I don't know if this is praise or insult, but it has a Disney like quality to it.
Take care and don't breath in too much smoke today.
Lovely photo, Head.
I'm very lucky that I have both a wonderful mom and mom-in-law -- two people who know exactly what I need to do in life and aren't shy about telling me. No confusion for me. :)
Great post, picture and reminder, head. Glad to know there's someone out there looking out for the critters. If I could, I'd have a houseful of dogs that deserve better homes than they have. Someday...
Also, check out my blog for an answer to your post last night.
Morning, everyone! :-)
KH,
When I sent you my comment late last night, Rescue Maiden was on Planet Earth but not on your main page. A few minutes later, I realized that my comment would be on yesterday's page. Looks like we were both thinking of Agnes at the same time. And my three strays were stretched out purring on my desk. Amazing chorus line up top.
Nice day to you all.
Evangeline
Pretty mom. She looks wise beyond her years in that photo.
And the Buddhists (at least the Tibetan ones) say we were all each other's mom in some life, so be kind to everybody.
Hi, Former Moms! I picked up my room!
Hey FM,
The Disney part is a compliment.
I always thought the artist`s from Disney were amazing. I used to have some Gels from Snow White.
It does look like some of the costuming those artists would come up with.
I had originally lined up all the copies in a chorusline, then saw the possibility of a nice gown with a built in bustier. I split one down the middle, flipped it, rejoined the two halves. Then I horizontally
flipped all the ones on the left & voila.
The smoke that had been blowing out to sea for the past four days is now drifting back on shore from 800 miles out. Strange colored sunrise.
Andi f,
Sometimes it can be a relief to be told by someone who you trust to tell you what to do. It seems that if they`ve held your trust that long, they must have been right. Three can live confusionless as cheap as one can.
Thank you.
Good morning Beth.
Thanks for the sparks of recognition.
It can also be plants, a simple bird feeder or a wave to a stranger. Every little bit helps.
Your writing count is rising. It`s working, no?
Evangeline,
Are the squirrels still bossing the cats around or maybe you, or are they gone for the winter. It seems like long ago, but I seem to remember seeing them year-round up there.
The dancing gowns.
I was going to put fairy bodies in the gowns, but can`t readily access the fairies. I had disconnected 4 hard drives temporarily to move a cabinet. An hour later I asked Teri where were the hard drives. She had put them in a box & packed them up.
I`m going to have to tie stuff down soon. The fairies are hidden in those hard drives.
Nancy P,
Yes my mom was something else. I always remember her as a champion of the underdog & a lover of animals, all.
That is an insightful take from the Buddhist`s outlook, one we might all take to heart. "Be kind to everybody" costs nothing. Not a bad investment for any happenstance gains.
What about under the bed?
Happy momday.
Yes, the squirrels are still bossing the cats around, but I haven’t seen Gros Père (Big Daddy) jump on Fat Albert’s back in a while. He's a bit of a thief though and snatches an avocado from the kitchen once in a while. He’s not allowed inside, but I recently found him dashing around the living room with a hazelnut between his teeth. He’s such a happy little fellow and isn’t scared of man or beast. BTW, judging from last winter, I expect he and his friends will be around making Squangels in the snow in the not too distant future.
Evangeline
To Nancy p: I’m sure she was wise beyond her years. And she became a fun-loving, generous and resilient person who made you forget how hard life could be in those days for our mothers and fathers. It’s strange to see a photo of a young girl and to know, at least in large part, what she didn’t know then: what she would become, what her life would be, when it would end. I really feel for all those people who lost their family albums in the fire storm.
Evangeline
Evangeline,
That`s a very nice thought from one her knew her better than most in her final years. You are correct in every way about her. That is also a heartbreaker, losing everything that can reignite memories like nothing else a photo album of the past can.
Evangeline,
A very well painted picture of the bushy-tailed monsters at your place. The squangels put the final laugh on the track.
Hi 'head. Yep, being accountable is working re my word count. Thanks for watching out for me!
Beth,
I got your back. All day.
Thank you, head. Some days I need it more than others. I really need it today. Right back at you.
evangeline, we should all live such lives that our friends would have words like that to say about us!
kh,I'm beginning to understand where you came from. :)
Writing from work, after everyone has gone home. Love working alone as I am now in charge!
The lab is a mess of fluorescent lights and blood tubes. Imagine the welcoming contrast of your wonderful work (work?). I have visited your blog from here and shown everyone your amazing creations.
I am so grateful to be retiring in 36 days now. One of my many projects is to stay connected to you and learn from you.
After the troubles at your place, I'm going to back up my treasured photos and haul my CDs/DVDs off-site!
Later.
Andie
P.S. Yes, our mom was a cutie. she would have loved to travel and visit each one of us all around the world.
Nancyp: You're absolutely right! And the fun part is that it's not that difficult when you think about it.
Andie: 36 days to lift off. Lucky girl! I'm one of the many who'll probably work till they drop!
KH: NewNewYorker is a great name. Imagine. In Africa, he once was a NewOuagadougouer. Or was it a NewIvoryCoaster? Or both?
NewNewYorker: It's great to know you're not too far away again.
Take care.
Hello KH,
Good to hear you're out of the flames (for the time being, Hah!).
Your Rescue Maiden posting was a nice thought and was well presented. The warmth and kindness of the resulting comments brought back fond memories of the times when we were occasionally the rescued ones.
Evangeline,
Yes, NewNewYorker sounds good! He was never a NewIvoryCoaster though. He was, however, a NewOuagadougouer as you mention. Remember that while Ivory Coast is a country, Ouagadougou is a city in Burkina Faso, a country which was called Upper Volta when NewNewYorker lived there in the late sixties.
Am I getting carried away here?
Andie, are you around? Since Evangeline mentioned your imminent lift-off, I was wondering if you were having a wheels-up party. As I heard it, the expression is widely used in embassy circles and refers to celebrations when visiting big shots finally take off for home and an embassy staffer radios to his colleagues from the airport and announces 'wheels up!'
Yep, that was too long.
I'll be more careful in future comments.
Landsailor,
(Somewhere in southern Texas)
Hey Landsailor,
How`s the land yacht. I remember "The Last Picture Show" as being somewhere in southern Texas. Do you need help escaping.
It`s strange when you think of it, how many countries have either changed names or no longer exist since we used to collect stamps & knew all the countries anywhere on the planet.
I`ll see you soon hopefully even If I have to make a quick juant over to Arizona. I don`t know where in Arizona you`re planning on setting up a bivouac, but it`s shouldn`t be too far. Keep me posted.
